Hyper-V Checkpoint Error (code 1907)

Situation

A Hyper-V backup plan fails with the foloowing error: VSS error 0x800423f4: The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur.

Solution

1. Open Hyper-V Manager.
2. Open Hyper-V host, then select virtual machine that produced the error.
3. Right-click on VM, select Settings, then switch to Management.
4. Click Integration services.
5. Disable the Backup (volume snapshot) Service.
6. Click OK.

Once these steps are done, the virtual machine will be in saved state for a short period of time and the uptime counter can be reset.
