Error on Virtual Machine Quiescing

Issue description

The following error may occur during a VMware backup plan execution.

Error Message:

• Backing up virtual machine {Name of the Machine (VirtualMachine)} failed. VMware.Vim.VimException An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details

This issue can be invoked for several reasons. For example, I/O on a virtual machine is highly loaded and the quiescing operation is not able to flush a required data to disk, while further I/O is being created.

This error also occurs if you try to create a quiesced snapshot on a virtual machine that does not have any free space.

Resolve the Issue

To Resolve VM Quiescing Issue

• Check the VMware ESXi version installed. If the version is older than VMware ESXi 6.0.0 build-5572656, upgrade to its latest version or a build-5572656 as earliest
• Make sure that all virtual machine drives have enough free space
• As a workaround, disable quiescing. To do this:

1. Open MSP360 (CloudBerry) Backup for Windows.
2. Find the required backup plan, then click Edit.
3. Follow the backup plan to the Select Virtual Machines step.
4. Deselect the Quiesce guest file system check box, then click Next.
5. Follow the backup plan steps to save the configuration.
