Generation Contains GFS Data (code 2530)

Situation

A backup plan with enabled Forever Forward Incremental schedule finishes with the following info message: Generation contains GFS data. The generation contains data under the GFS retention. A synthetic full backup was forced

Cause

The info message appears in case you enabled the Forever Forward Incremental schedule in the backup plan and this backup plan contains some data kept on storage according to the previous GFS retention policy settings. The GFS retention policy is not compatible with the Forever Forward Incremental schedule, so a new full backup is required.

Solution

This issue requires no solutions and is designed to inform you that a new full backup was created for Forever Forward Incremental schedule you set in the backup plan settings and some GFS backups are still kept on backup storage. All backups under GFS retention will be kept on backup storage until their keeping periods expire. You can delete these backups manually if you are sure you will not need them anymore. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Switch to the Backup Storage tab.
  2. Find the backups marked with W, M, or Y signs. These are backups under the GFS retention (marked with W under the weekly keeping period, marked with M under the monthly keeping period, and marked with Y under the yearly keeping period).

  1. Right-click the generation you want to delete.
  2. Confirm the deletion.

Some backups under the GFS retention policy may be locked with the Immutability. These backups cannot be deleted until the GFS keeping period expires
