EWS Deprecation: Microsoft 365/Google Workspace Backup Is Preparing for the Transition
Microsoft is retiring Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online as part of its move toward modern APIs such as Microsoft Graph. The phased deprecation is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with EWS fully disabled by April 1, 2027.
Our approach
At Microsoft 365/Google Workspace Backup, we are actively working to migrate the functionality that currently relies on EWS to supported modern APIs.
Our priority is to complete this transition on time and without disruption to our customers. We are carefully identifying EWS dependencies, implementing the required alternatives, and continuously testing backup and restore functionality throughout the migration.
We are closely monitoring Microsoft's API developments and remaining feature gaps to ensure that our solution continues to provide the functionality and reliability our customers expect.
Our goal is simple: the retirement of EWS should have no negative impact on your backups. We are committed to completing the migration within Microsoft's timeline and maintaining reliable protection of your Microsoft 365 data throughout the transition.
We will continue to provide updates as the migration progresses.
