Restore Plan Failed. Revision, Bitmap, or Metadata File Are Missing (code 2026)

Situation

A disk image restore plan terminates with the following error: Cannot restore data. Restore Plan Has Failed. Revision, Bitmap, or Metadata File Are Missing

Cause

Most probably, one or more files of these types (metadata, revision, bitmap) were deleted from backup storage manually.

These files have the following extensions:

  • Revision file (.cbrevision)
  • Map file (.cbbitmap)
  • Metadata file (.xml)

Solution

These files are critical, so there is no way to perform the restore if they are missing.

Use your storage provider's web console to try undeleting these files.

AWS S3

To undelete objects on Amazon S3 storage, refer to How do I undelete a deleted S3 object? at docs.was.amazon.com.

Microsoft Azure

To undelete objects on Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, the Soft delete feature must be switched on. Refer to the Soft delete for the blob chapter at docs.microsoft.com
