Situation

The restore plan terminates with the following error: Unsupported OS (Code 1709)

Cause

The restore plan has the Convert GPT to MBR feature enabled. This feature has several limitations, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) feature and tool set, in particular. The occurremce of the error 1709 means that Windows version of the instance where Backup for Windows is installed does not have a sufficient WMI kit to support the Convert GPT to MBR feature.

Solution

1. Make sure the Convert GPT to MBR feature is required fo this restore plan. To learn more about this feature, refer to the Convert GPT Disks to MBR chapter of the help documentation.

2. Install an application to the instance with any of the following operating systems:

• Standalone Platforms:
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10
• Server Platforms:
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2019
