Hyper-V Backup: Invalid Checkpoint Detected (1958)
Situation
A backup plan finishes with the following info message: Invalid checkpoint detected (code 1958). This message contains a list of invalid checkpoints.
Cause
This info message indicates that some missing data was detected in the specified checkpoints. Invalid checkpoints are unusable for restore purposes. These checkpoints cannot be fixed.
Solutions
Solution 1. Delete invalid checkpoint
- Delete invalid checkpoints specified in the info message. Refer to the How to Delete Hyper-V Checkpoints article for instructions.
Solution 2. Create a new backup plan to skip invalid checkpoints
If the problem persists, it is recommended to create a new Hyper-V Backup plan in the new backup format for the same backup source.
- On the Select Virtual Machines step, click Advanced settings and select Back up current Hyper-V checkpoint only.
With the Back up current Hyper-V checkpoint only checkbox selected, only the checkpoint created at the moment of the backup plan execution will be backed up. Previous checkpoints will be skipped.
