Colon and Dollar Signs in Backup Paths

Situation

The backup destination contains 2 sets of folders: some with the $ sign and some with the : sign.

Cause

The folder structure created by MSP360 Backup has been changed in version 6.0.

Prior to Backup 6.0, the application used the : symbol as a delimiter for drive and share folder names.

Starting from Backup Agent version 6.0 all newly uploaded data uses $ instead.

The changes were implemented to unify paths between cloud and local destinations and avoid renaming while data seeding.

Consequences

There is no difference for the Backup Agent whether the legacy path is used of the new path is used. In the Backup Storage tab the folder structure will be displayed correctly, and you should not experience any issues stemming from the different naming conventions.
