Situation
An attempt to edit the storage account failed with the following error message: This storage account editing features are no longer supported. You can use it for backup or restore purposes only if this is possible without any modification. Otherwise, you can only delete it.
Cause
Editing feature support for the following storage account types has been discontinued:
- CenturyLink (Now Lumen Cloud)
- Cloudian
- Dream Objects
- Aruba Cloud
- ThinkOn
- Oracle Cloud, etc.
These storage accounts can no longer be edited or added. You can use it for backup or restore purposes only if this is possible without any modification. Otherwise, you can only delete it.
If these storage accounts offer S3 compatible object storage, therefore you can try to add them as S3-compatible storage accounts.
Backup data will remain in existing destinations according to retention policies, but these storage accounts can no longer be modified.
Solution
- Contact your storage provider’s support team if you require changes to these storage accounts.
- To continue using backups, edit your backup plan and select a supported storage provider or one of above mentioned storage accounts added as S3 compatible.
S3 Compatibility Considerations
CenturyLink (Now Lumen Cloud).
- Details: Lumen Cloud (formerly CenturyLink) offers an S3-compatible Object Storage service. It is built on the Dell EMC ECS platform, which is known for its high degree of S3 API compatibility. It's designed for storing unstructured data like backups, archives, and media files.
Cloudian.
- Details: Cloudian HyperStore is an object storage platform specifically designed for on-premises deployment that is 100% S3 API compatible. It is one of the leading solutions for businesses that want an S3-like experience in their own data center. Its entire architecture is built around the S3 API.
Dream Objects (by DreamHost).
- Details: DreamObjects is a core product for DreamHost and is explicitly marketed as a scalable, S3-compatible object storage service. It is a popular and cost-effective alternative to Amazon S3, especially within the developer and open-source communities.
Aruba Cloud.
- Details: Aruba Cloud's "Object Storage" product is fully compatible with the S3 API. It is part of their larger cloud ecosystem and is designed for storing large amounts of data securely, with integration into other Aruba services.
ThinkOn.
- Details: ThinkOn, a cloud solution provider, offers S3-compatible object storage through its various partnered and owned platforms. They often leverage platforms like Cloudian's HyperStore to provide this service to their clients, ensuring full S3 API compatibility.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Details: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage is a highly durable and scalable service that is S3-compatible. However, it's crucial to note that Oracle uses its own native authentication API (which is more feature-rich). For clients who need it, they provide an S3 Compatibility API that allows you to use your S3 keys and tools to interact with their buckets. Most standard S3 SDKs and tools (like AWS CLI, boto3, s3cmd) can be configured to work with OCI Object Storage by using a specific S3-compatibility endpoint.
