Environment-Related Errors
Situation
You, or your Managed Backup Service customers, encounter error messages like:
- Parameter is incorrect
- Unexpected error occurred.
Cause
Such issues are commonly caused by environment-related misconfigurations and service disruptions that affect Management Console or Backup/RMM?Connect Agent applications. This can happen for various reasons, depending on what you were trying to do.
Solutions
Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try:
Refresh the Management Console page, restart Backup or RMM services, restart Backup Agent or Connect. Sometimes, a simple refresh (F5 or Ctrl + R) can resolve temporary glitches.
Check your Internet connection and network connectivity. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Try reloading or reconnecting. Verify firewall/ports are not blocking connections (e.g., 443, 80, or custom ports).
Clear cache and cookies. If this is happening in a web browser, clearing cached data might help. Chrome/Edge/Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + Del → Select "Cached images and files" → Clear.
Try again later. If the issue is server-side (e.g., the service is down), check if you have ant emails about service interruptions due to updates. A few minute waiting and retrying might work.
Check for updates. If you are using Backup Agent, RMM Agent or Connect, make sure it is updated to the latest version.
Report the problem. If the error persists, use Report a problem option in the context menu or Feedback option in the Management Console website. Provide as much information as you can:
- Error screenshots
- Logs (agent + console)
- Steps to reproduce
- Environment details (OS, agent version, network setup).
Collaborate with the support team. Support engineers can ask you for some additional data. Support engineers may request additional data from you. This information will be escalated by the support team to the development team to help resolve your issue and assist other customers experiencing similar problems.
