Cannot Apply the GFS Marker (code 2518)

Situation

A backup plan terminates with the following warning: Cannot apply the GFS marker. The GFS marker cannot be applied. The monthly (or yearly) keeping period is less than the specified monthly (or weekly) keeping period

Cause

According to GFS policy, the following rules are applied:

• If the weekly and monthly keeping periods are enabled, and the yearly keeping period is disabled: the period of keeping weekly backups cannot be longer than the period of keeping monthly backups
• If the weekly keeping period is enabled, the monthly keeping period is disabled, and the yearly keeping period is enabled: the period of keeping weekly backups cannot be longer than the period of keeping yearly backups
• If the weekly is disabled, the monthly keeping period is enabled, and the yearly keeping is enabled: the period of keeping monthly backups cannot be longer than the period of keeping yearly backups
• If all keeping periods (weekly, monthly, and yearly) are enabled: the period of keeping weekly backups cannot be longer than the period of keeping monthly and yearly backups, and the period of keeping monthly backups cannot be longer than the period of keeping yearly backups

Solution

Edit the backup plan and specify the correct GFS settings.
