Cannot Retrieve Disk Information (code 2420)

Situation
A Hyper-V backup plan terminates with the following error: VSS Error. Cannot retrieve disk information (code 2420)
The event log contains the following ID: 15268 and the following records: Failed to get the disk information
Cause
Probably, the Hyper-V server cannot retrieve the disk information because the Integration Services are not up-to-date.
Solution
Note that in some cases several VSS errors can occur at the same time, and the recommendations described below may not be helpful
