Plan Type Is Not Supported (code 1406)

Situation

A backup plan terminates with the following error: The plan type is not supported. The current edition does not support plans of this type (code 1406).

Cause

The occurrence of this error means that the backup plan type is not supported in the installed software edition. Most often it happens with a virtual backup plan (VMware, Hyper-V) execution attempts on desktop editions.

Solution
